A City House with Rural Roominess
Set within lush countryside and overlooking a golf course, yet just 15 minutes from Belfast city centre, this property is ideally situated to offer the best of both worlds. At 10,000 sq ft, and with ample land to comfortably accommodate a large family, it provides the space and tranquillity of rural life. But we were able to bring a touch of urbanity to the design and detailing. The property is in the style of a Belfast city house and built in a Lagan Valley red brick, which gives a slightly more rustic appearance than the traditional Belfast red brick. We used sandstone detailing in the portico, bays and sills to soften the building’s appearance and smooth off some of those rough urban edges. From further afield are the French roof tiles. Their dark colour and two-directional form provide texture to the property and help to break up the expanse of red bricks. The urban influence continues inside, with tall, recessed ceilings, a muted colour scheme, sash windows, Georgian-inspired coving and other detailing that is reminiscent of London townhouses. Fitted furniture enhances the look and creates a comfortable living space for the occupants.
